Growing up my family always told me just how important it was to be successful, and to do something with my life. They couldn’t stress enough how important school was and that it needed to be taken seriously. When I was younger time went by so slowly for me and time was never really an issue. As a matter of fact, I would get frustrated at how slowly some days would pass. I used to think I had all the time in the world to grow up, and there was no rush for my future, although it seemed I was in such a rush to grow up. But I can tell you one thing, I woke up one morning and it seemed that all that time I had in front of me had passed. I was applying for college and high school was over, sadly that ship had sailed.

They don’t tell you when life starts to speed up, it just happens overnight I think and then you wonder what you’ve been doing the last 16 years of your life. This year, I turned 20 and it was hard to wrap my head around the fact that I had been on this planet for 20 years, it seems so long but yet if you asked me what I spent all of those 20 years doing I couldn’t tell you. Because time goes faster than the speed of light, and one minute you’re turning 9 and the next you’re turning 20. I entered kindergarten being the youngest in my grade and it worked out well for me.  I consider myself lucky to have finished college at the age of 20, although now a days people are finishing at 18. You’re so young, but it still feels like so much time has passed.

Times have changed that’s for sure, because when my mom was 20 she was about to get married. I always thought I grew up fast, and I knew what I wanted to do with my life by the time I was 17. I’m lucky because many people my age have no idea where their life is going. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but if you’re 30 and still don’t know what you want to do it is surely cutting it close. Time waits for no one, there are no retakes, and no rewind buttons. Time is going to pass by regardless to what you do with your days, which is why it is important what you do with them. Take the time to learn about yourself and about others around you. FInd something that interests you, even in the slightest and run with it. Even if you feel like your life is at a standstill, keep learning. This does not mean that one must go to school and get a great education, it just means learn to educate yourself. Be attentive, read the newspaper, be aware of your surroundings, know your government, love your friends and family. Education is not measured by the amount of years spent in school, education is measured by one’s willingness to learn.

Not every genius is born at Harvard, and it is important to remember that. But one must also remember to strive because wasted time is worse than wasted money. Do something with your life, whether it is big or small, make it worth something. People forget how lucky we are to live on such a beautiful planet, and some of us don’t even get to see it. Be proactive, stand up for what you believe in, learn to live your life objectively, because you’ll find it difficult otherwise. Many may argue over what exactly our purpose is here on planet earth, but the bottom line is it doesn’t matter why we’re here, it’s too late for that. We should be worrying about what were gonna do while were here, how we can make this time worthwhile. If you can do one thing a day that makes you happy then you have succeeded in living a life well spent. Now you may read this and say, yeah I’ll start tomorrow. That’s the problem, see,  the trouble is, you think you have time.
